Team Saturday offers a psychologically and physically safe environment where children have opportunities for new experiences, for learning new skills, and have time for individual attention, through small groups with dedicated teachers and enthusiastic 8th grade assistants. Children are recommended through school guidance counselors in public elementary schools in western Loudoun County and northern Fauquier County; they are selected on the basis of family need (i.e. family in economic or psychological stress) or on the basis of a child’s demonstrated need for support and enrichment.

Provide a safe and predictable and stable environment;
Offer, through small groups, positive relationships with adults, older children, and role models for problem solving and socialization;
Offer opportunities for new experiences and skill development;
Enhance students’ self-esteem and self-confidence; and,
Provide ongoing support and serve as a source of referral for the children and their families

Goals for Hill School’s 8th grade mentors
Through the program, we hope to provide an opportunity for them to learn the ethic of service, expand awareness and understanding and appreciation of diversity, and learn the challenge and satisfaction of attending to other’s needs.
The Hill School of Middleburg, Virginia, runs Team Saturday on fifteen Saturdays during the school year for children in 2nd through 5th grades. This program is not affiliated with area public schools. It runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., usually on alternating Saturdays during the school year and allows peer interaction in small group settings. The program is free of charge. Lunch and transportation to and from The Hill School are provided.
For our younger students, Team Saturday Junior (grades 2-5), sessions include three main activities and ample free-play time. There are also field trips and special activities throughout the year such as Tae Kwon Do and nature workshops. Students also have the wonderful opportunity to work with Hill School eighth-grade mentors during the school-year program.
Our TEEN program, Team Saturday Senior (grades 6-8), offers students more time to work on projects together and with a little more autonomy. The students have a greater sense of independence and opportunities to develop their peer-management, leadership, and team-building skills all while creating some pretty fantastic projects for themselves and the community.
Team Saturday students who age into High School may continue to participate as teacher’s assistants and earn volunteer hours while gaining valuable experience.
