Your child(ren) will take the bus to the school as usual in the morning but they can leave with you after the party. Discover Traffic Gardens’ Traffic Playmat Kit and Sidewalk Superintendent Magnetic Poetry Kit Workshops!

We love making street design fun - turning the big ideas into hands-on experiences as we try to captivate young minds! Last Saturday, we hosted a workshop as part of the Team Saturday program in Middleburg, VA - one of our favorite annual events.
This time, 18 students (7-12 years old) plus 8th grade assistants created two street playmat kits, complete with pavement markings, buildings and local people. They had a free-hand and one student came up with the delightful swans with the random supplies. In the afternoon, we tried out a brand-new activity - The Sidewalk Superintendent Magnetic Poetry Kit.
Students liked using the real typewriter to create additional words to supplement the provided street design and complete streets vocabulary. They took home their poetry kits (which also came with a Sidewalk Superintendent notebook and membership card), while the playmat kits will be showcased at the program’s 30th-anniversary celebration in December.
Since around 2015, we’ve collaborated with Team Saturday to offer these hands-on activities intended to spark interest in street safety, community development & STEM, all part of exploring new fun ways to introduce ideas in a way that will engage and interest young people.
